In 2024, Tesla UK faced a unique challenge. Following the success of Model 3 and Model Y leasing packages in 2021 and 2022, a significant number of vehicles were returning to the end-of-lease fleet. While this is typically good news for a dealership, these returned vehicles presented a problem: 70% were in gloss white, the most cost-effective and popular choice at the time. With such uniformity, the used car teams across Tesla UK dealerships struggled to entice customers to purchase these identical vehicles, especially as 2023 and 2024 models became available in new and exciting colours.
The Challenge
Tesla UK needed a solution to make their large stock of used Model 3 and Model Y cars more visually appealing to prospective buyers. The goal was to create a noticeable difference between the used fleet and the new models, adding value and desirability without compromising quality or warranty.
WRAPvehicles’ Innovative Solution
After extensive discussions with Tesla UK and Tesla EMEA representatives, WRAPvehicles was appointed as the sole vehicle wrap supplier for the project. Our team devised a plan to fully transform the used vehicles using high-quality vehicle wraps:
Colour Matching to New Models: We visited Tesla dealerships to assess the new 2024–2025 colour palette and selected matching vinyls from our curated range.
Popular Market Colours: In addition to matching the new Tesla colours, we included popular aftermarket colours such as satin matte black and satin matte grey to appeal to broader customer preferences.
Full Colour Change Wrap: To ensure a factory-finish appearance, each car underwent a full colour change wrap. This involved removing doors and wrapping right into the door jambs, door returns, and sills. The result was a seamless, high-quality finish indistinguishable from a factory paint job
Execution and Logistics
Large-scale projects of this nature require careful planning, approvals, and logistical coordination:
WRAPvehicles completed all necessary paperwork to gain corporate approval from Tesla UK and EMEA.
Each Model 3 and Model Y was collected, carefully wrapped, and returned to the dealerships.
All vehicles were provided with our full vehicle wrap warranty, giving both Tesla and buyers confidence in the quality and durability of the wraps.
Results
The impact was immediate: within days of returning to the dealerships, the newly wrapped cars sold. The full colour change technique provided each vehicle with a fresh, unique look that captured attention and differentiated it from both new stock and the previous fleet.
This project demonstrated how creative thinking and high-quality vehicle wrapping can solve real-world problems for one of the world’s largest car manufacturers.
